My 1yr has cough what can i give him?

my son just turrn 1 a mth ago. he has been having a fever the last couple of days but i think its bec. of his shots. this morning he woke up with a cough. can i give him cough medicine for children or is he too small for that. the cough medicine they had for infants (pedia care) they took of the market???????????
