Can my parents keep my car crash settlement from me when i turn 18?

Im 17 and i get a settlement when i turn 18 from a car crash and my parents and i recently got in to a fight. So now he said that he and my mom are changing the date i receive it to when they feel im ready. And he also said that he already talked to a lawyer and edgar snyder and has a court date tuesday. But people are telling me that they cant change it because its my money. And once im 18 they shouldn't be allowed to touch it because im no longer a minor so i wanted to know if that is true and they really can change it so i cant get my money.
