Sims 2 confusion??? Please help!!!?

Ok so I have sims 2 pets and I have a family with 5 sims and 3 dogs so I all ready have the maximum of 8. but I clicked try for baby with my 2 adult sims and then the lullaby played...so will my sim have a baby or will she just stay pregnant since I have 8? Some people say that you can actually have 10 sims if you have the pets expansion is that true?
