Do spacecraft use color images when snapshotting other planets or they always use black and white screen?

Since once when I saw on TV and I was told when NASA send spacecraft to Mars, they use black/white camera, then NASA use RGB to apply color correction. Do NASA use black/white camera just on far distant planets or they use it on all planets. Because somebody told me is Venus yellow/white really, if I am actually there virtually on spaceship is a fruitless meaningless question, and no spacecraft have seen bright side on Mercury. Why spacecraft ahve to use black/white cameras to viisit planets?
