Supreame Court 1957. Roth vs United States. The constitution promises free speech, but the loop hole is that it doesnt define what free speech is. This case gave the first official definition of free speech. According to the supreame court, disturbing, offensive, upsetting, and obscene speech is not free speech protected by the constitution. So as the times change free speech changes since what is obscene to one generation may not be obscene to the next generation.
